This past week I have been overwhelmed by the response to our original blog article. We wanted to give an update, and say THANK YOU! If you missed our first article, you can find it here, Australia, How can we help?
There are so many people I wanted to thank. The crafters who’ve dropped off nests, pouches, and other knitted/crocheted items, they will be making there way to an approved HUB for appropriate distribution.
To everyone who shared, liked, or otherwise promoted our article. The more the information is shared, the more awareness that can be brought to the disastrous outcome of the Australian Bush Fires.
For each and everyone who has purchased one of our Australia Collection yarns, we have been able to donate $1650 (as of Friday January 17, 2020) to our 2 chosen organizations, The Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, and the NSW Rural Fire Services. Your contributions are going to help The Australia Zoo’s Rehab centre, and to firefighter families who’ve lost a loved one fighting these devastating fires. (If you don’t already follow us on social media, each Friday, we post copies of our donation receipts, we believe accountability is incredibly important)
We are definitely on our way to achieving our goal of raising $10000! The pride I feel for our knitting community, who has jumped in, is immense. So with gratitude, big virtual hugs. We have a ways to go yet, but I know if anyone can do it, the knitting community can.
Over the week, there has been much reflection about all the ways this fire has gutted parts of Australia. To be honest, there don’t seem to be the right words, or enough of them to be able to portray the situation on the ground. Like any environmental crisis like this, the information changes at a dramatic pace, and with it, those who want to help also sometimes find themselves having to shift a bit with it.
We have added some additional products to the Australia Collection, we understand not everyone loves a sock weight yarn, so we’ve included a DK weight, $5 from each skein will be donated.
We have also increased our donation amount from the Pickle Jar kits to $10, this will be split between the NSW Rural Fire Services, and an organization who supports indigenous communities who have been displaced by the fires. (We are currently researching which organization, and we will update you shortly. If anyone has any suggestions, we’d love to hear them)
