About Us

My love of all things wool related, from my sheep, to my yarn shop, being a dyer was a natural fit. It rounded out my 24 / 7 wooly life. I get to play with yarn all day, I get to play with colour combinations that make me smile. I also get to combine it with my love of music. Did you know every colour way is named for a song lyric, and often the colours are inspired by the vibe of a great record.

Owner - Tangled Poets

Tangled Poets started as a small “kitchen sink” yarn dyeing adventure. I loved hand dyed yarn, and I loved the unpredictability of colour combinations, and the transition of an interesting tonal/semi solid. So the play began. I researched, I experimented, I kept notes, I used my pharmacy background to make concentrations, that was 4 years ago, and now here we are!

All Tangled Poets is a hands on experience at every stage, from preskeining all the skeins to ensure they meet specs, and are knot free, to the dye process, to the hand twisting, to the labeling, to knitting, and to the love that goes into every skein made.

In late 2018, we moved into our current facility. A sheep farm, in the heart of the Kawartha Lakes, Ontario. We have a large dye studio, so that when I’m not dyeing yarn, I can bottle feed baby lambs. It’s a pretty wooly life here, and I love every moment of it.

Our team at the dye studio is fabulous group. Sydney had been working at our brick and mortar store for most of high school, and upon graduation, she stayed on while she started college, and a family. She works at the dye studio most of the week, and assists in most of the day to day. She also comes to work with her own assistant, Chloe, who is a service dog, and provides lots of snuggles, and love (when she’s not working, and we have permission to do so).

Our Skein Department is made of the guy who can crank out hundreds of skeins a day, as long as he has the radio on, George, aka Dad, is living his best post retirement life. It is a cherished time my adult life, to get to spend this time with my dad, we have lots of laughs, good chats, and brainstorming sessions. He’s the voice of reason most days, and we love him for that.

Our business manager and Vice President, Isaac, also my husband and best friend, handles the stuff business managers do, and provides the pep talks, motivational speeches, usually in the form of making us listen to football coach speeches, but hey it seems to work, so we roll with it.

Our IT department, Brandon, handles the computer things, the behind the scenes stuff, the things that make the website work, and a bunch of other things I don’t understand.

We also have 4 other assistants, who are always here when we need them, to help label, feed us, fill water bottles, rinse yarn, take yarn to dry racks, and general day to day stuff. It truly is a family affair, and it’s awesome.

We have all of our yarns milled in Ontario, Canada. The Merino wool used in our bases is sourced from New Zealand. We use Jacqaurd acid dyes, to provide our range of colours, and use Eucalan in the rinse process.

Our Dye Studio

Situated on our family farm, our dye studio includes a great workspace to process and dye our yarns. Lots of windows, and a fun bright space to rock out and enjoy the views.
